McFarland High School student report: Med Club raises about $29,000; Model UN and arts students win awards

The student said Med Club helped raise more than $29,000 for leukemia and lymphoma charities; the club’s work was recognized at a regional celebration at Monona Terrace, where total fundraising across the event was reported by the student as about $620,000. The student also reported that seven Model UN students attended the Wisconsin High School Model UN conference at UW–Madison and one student won an award portraying Thomas Jefferson in a historical committee. Visual arts students earned gold medals at a competition hosted by Edgewood College.
Upcoming events listed included a high school musical, Connect Club’s second annual equity picnic (April 24) uniting equity clubs from both middle and high school, and pre-ACT testing for freshmen and sophomores on April 16 (those grades only will attend school that day). The student also summarized a busy start to spring athletics seasons for track, softball, cross country, baseball, soccer, golf, tennis and Ultimate Frisbee.
Board members asked follow-up questions about Med Club’s fundraising methods and the status of the Hope Squad program; the student described outreach and direct-mail fundraising methods and said Hope Squad currently has no active members in the student’s club but indicated outreach is underway.
