Calaveras County supervisors voted to authorize the purchase of the building commonly known as the Human Services Building in San Andreas and directed staff to obtain a roof inspection before closing out details of maintenance and capital planning.
Assistant County Executive Officer Marcus Munoz told the board the acquisition would keep more than 100 Human Services Agency employees in a single San Andreas location and could save the county money compared with building new office space. “The purchase price is $5,900,000,” Munoz said during the presentation. He also told the board the building is about 32,000 square feet and that comparable new government construction costs approach $1,000 per square foot.
