Sheriff Captain Archer reported March crime and enforcement activity to the Calimesa City Council on April 7.
For March the department recorded: one robbery (a carjacking), six assaults, three burglaries, six vehicle thefts (five of them trailers), and 18 thefts, with a total of 513 calls for service, Captain Archer said. He described the carjacking incident as reported late to deputies; the department used Flock camera data, located the stolen vehicle in the Whitewater area and a pursuit ensued before the vehicle was eventually located after crossing into Palm Springs.
Captain Archer also reported a March 20 quality-of-life enforcement sweep by the Calimesa POP deputy and the crime suppression unit: 11 traffic enforcement stops, nine traffic citations, five parking citations, three arrests for traffic violations, two arrests for drug violations and one citation for a city ordinance.
Council members asked whether the burglaries were residential or commercial; Captain Archer said they were a mix but did not provide a breakdown.
