House recognizes Victims' Rights Week; lawmaker recounts family's experience with victim services

Representative Snyder Hall introduced House Concurrent Resolution 27 on April 9, recognizing Victims’ Rights Week and urging renewed support for victim services across the state.
"This resolution marks Delaware's Victims' Rights Week and provides all of us a chance to recommit our support for victim services and criminal justice response that assists all victims of crime," Representative Snyder Hall said on the floor, thanking victim-service providers and advocacy groups for their work.
Representative Neal offered a personal account in support of the resolution. "Earlier this March, I got the terrible news that my son became a victim of a crime. He is here today, and I am forever grateful for that because I know that's not often the case," Representative Neal said. She credited Delaware State Police Troop 6, victim services and the Department of Justice with providing resources, mental-health supports and practical assistance while her family navigated the incident. "They provided us resources, and not just mental health resources, but self defense resources, things you don't think about," she said.
Snyder Hall also recognized awardees connected with victim services, naming Megan McKinnon of the Department of Justice as the recipient of the Outstanding Professional Award, the Delaware Volunteer Legal Services Family Law Program as Outstanding Organization, and Tynita Congo Wright with Jamil Akim Congo Cares as Outstanding Volunteer.
House Concurrent Resolution 27 was included on Consent Calendar No. 4 and was adopted by voice vote.
