D’Ocampo asked for information about the facilitator’s experience with Native communities and said she found an initial reply from the organizer dismissive. She urged the board to ensure the county consults tribal and Native stakeholders before sponsoring healing work serving Native people.
After the comment period Chair Mashburn said the board could not answer the questions during public comment but asked the county administrator to look into the matter and provide the board a report so the resident’s questions could be addressed. Several board members signaled agreement.
The board took no formal action beyond requesting that staff follow up and report back to the board with findings about the sponsorship, facilitator qualifications and whether outreach to Native community members occurred.
