Bowers said some language on the site endorsed a male-dominated household and the view that the correct family form is “one man and one woman,” and she said those positions conflict with her values. Bowers said she supports widely shared civic values—loyalty, service, generosity and stewardship—but would not advance a resolution that promotes the specific model language the resident cited.
Bowers also noted that council members are not obligated to adopt every resident proposal and that she welcomes residents’ participation and ideas even when she disagrees with them. She invited any council colleagues who wished to take up the resolution to contact the resident directly.
