Supervisors approve CAO recognition and budget transfers for shelter and sheriff’s office

The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors approved three administrative items April 8: a step-1 recognition for the county administrative officer (25 years of continuous service) and two budget transfers covering modular-shelter access work and a vacuum storage system for the sheriff’s office.

The board reviewed agenda item 16, which requested approval of step 1 recognition for the county administrative officer for 25 years of continuous service as provided under a previously adopted appointed department head resolution. The board voted yes on the recognition; the item was presented at the request of the director of human resources and risk management.

The board then approved two budget transfers: Budget Transfer 401, a $32,000 transfer within the 141-445 housing budget unit to cover the cost of stairs and ramps for a modular building as part of the IRF emergency shelter project (ERF funding); and Budget Transfer 402, a $14,000 transfer within the 101-240-2 sheriff’s office budget to cover the cost of a vacuum storage system. Supervisors Starkey, Howard, Short, Wilson and Chair Borges voted yes on both transfers.

During public comment on the transfers, a speaker asked whether the housing transfer was part of ERF (emergency response/facility) funding; staff confirmed it was ERF funding and not a county general-fund allocation.

Why it matters: the vote advances modular-shelter accessibility work tied to shelter construction and authorizes equipment for the sheriff’s office; the CAO recognition is a personnel item acknowledging long service.

All items passed unanimously and the board adjourned to its next meeting on April 22.
