Planning Commission backs new fire station at Alta and Falcon; project moves to City Council

LAS VEGAS — The Planning Commission on Thursday approved a site development plan for a new one-story, 12,800-square-foot fire station to serve the Alta Drive/Falcon Lane area.
City public works staff said the station is intended to improve emergency response times for the neighborhood and showed the commission site plans, elevation drawings and landscaping that use desert-appropriate species. Rosa Cortez, City Engineer and deputy director of public works, and Liz Duncan, architectural project manager, presented the plan and said the new station replaces an existing station at Jones and Upland.
The commission approved the plan per staff conditions. Commissioners recorded no public opposition at the hearing and asked no substantive modifications. The approval was moved to City Council for final action on May 21. The city will return to Council with the staff recommendation, project exhibits and any required permitting steps.
