Representative Brad Hall told the committee that a recent turnover in county officials led to an expired sales tax that cost his county about $3 million. He introduced Senate Bill 577, which directs the Department of Finance and Administration to notify a county's quorum court 120 days before the expiration of a sales and use tax, the sponsor said.
"All this bill does is say, DFA shall notify the quorum court a hundred and 20 days before the expiration of a sales and use tax," Hall said. He described the loss in his county as about $3,000,000 because the expiration was not noticed in time.
No one registered to speak for or against the bill in the provided transcript. Hall closed by asking for a favorable vote and the committee approved the bill by voice vote.
