Saint Charles honors student athletes and proclaims Arbor Day for April 25

Mayor Laura Vitak used the April 7 council meeting to recognize student athletes and to proclaim Arbor Day for April 25, 2025.
The mayor introduced Thomas McMillan, a sophomore at Saint Charles North High School, noting his recent state-level results in swimming and a national-record accomplishment referenced by the mayor. Coach Rooney and family members joined McMillan at the meeting.
The council also recognized Kylie Scolari, a sophomore who competed with Team Elite in synchronized ice skating. The mayor noted Team Elite was the first U.S. team to win gold at the world synchronized ice skating competition in Gothenburg, Sweden. Scolari’s mother, Kristen, and family accompanied her to the meeting.
Mayor Vitak read a proclamation declaring April 25, 2025 as Arbor Day in Saint Charles and urged residents and schools to participate in tree-planting and pollinator-garden activities. Laura Nagy, chair of the Natural Resources Commission, said the commission will plant a tree at Anderson School to mark Arbor Day and plans to stage a “touch-a-tree” event in the former police department parking lot; the commission also plans to expand community pollinator gardens.
The recognitions and proclamation were presented as community-building items during the council’s opening presentations.
