Neighbors press board over rezoning; supervisors remove item from consent calendar and set a public hearing

During the public comment period several nearby residents raised objections to a proposed rezoning for Parcel 510028 A and asked the board to remove that matter from the consent agenda so the issue could be heard formally.

Dennis Cook, who identified himself as a neighbor of the parcel and said he spoke on behalf of John White (who could not attend), told the board the principal concerns were "where the water and the sewer are gonna come from and the size of the lots" and that the area faces drought pressure from new wells. Another speaker described recurring drainage and water flow that channel across properties and warned that new drilling and development had previously caused local water impacts.

County counsel and staff explained that state statute allows the board to adopt planning and zoning commission recommendations by consent unless a protest or request for hearing is raised. After hearing the public comments the board voted unanimously to remove item F from the consent agenda and directed staff to schedule the item for a subsequent noticed public hearing (the board indicated the first meeting in May would satisfy notice requirements).

Ending: Residents’ request moved the rezoning off the consent calendar; the board set the matter for a future public hearing so neighbors will have an opportunity for a formal hearing and record.
