Public Works Director Arnulfo Yanez and TSK Architects senior architect Jonathan Reichert updated the council Tuesday on the Sierra Madre Library construction.
Progress and schedule: Reichert said interior framing and first‑floor work are underway, storage and bookstore areas have been located for Friends of the Library and foundations for the building addition have been poured; steel is expected to rise in the coming weeks. Director Yanez said the project has cleared the “surprise‑got‑you” phase (unanticipated subterranean issues) and is “full steam ahead.”
Timeline and occupancy: Yanez told council that although the project is still within the calendar schedule, staff expect certificate of occupancy around late May to early June; the grant deadline remains March 31 (staff said work is ahead of the grant deadline schedule), and punch‑list and occupancy processes will follow foundation and framing completion.
Construction management: Council members asked about schedule slippage and contractor attendance at council meetings; staff said delays have shrunk from around 35 days to below that figure and that Vertex (a project contractor) was asked to attend the next council meeting to report on progress.
Ending: The council was invited to observe progress, and staff committed to continuing monthly updates and to ensuring Vertex attends an upcoming meeting to answer detailed schedule questions.
