The Marion County School Board approved submission of the 2024–25 Unified School Improvement Grant (UNISIG) at its April 8 meeting.
Doctor Varner (presenter) said the state Department of Education identifies eligible schools—those graded D or F or with an index below 41%—and allocates amounts to winning districts and charter schools. Varner told the board the cost for the district’s approved application was approximately $865,000. The motion to approve the application was made by Board Member Mathura and seconded by Dr. James and passed 4-0.
The board heard that the funds are intended to support additional improvement work at the schools identified by the state and that staff would submit the application and related documentation to the DOE.
