Committee gets timetable for Miami Beach Geo Bond log cabin reconstruction

City staff on March 18 updated the committee on progress toward reconstructing a historic log cabin that was dismantled in 2018 and stored pending restoration.
Commissioner Rosen Gonzalez, sponsor of the item, reminded the committee the log cabin had been prioritized with geo bond funding and asked for a status report. Capital Improvements Department staff said a consultant had been selected after multiple attempts, a purchase order and notice to proceed have been issued, and the consultant had begun due diligence.
Staff estimated roughly eight months to complete design and construction documents (including review by the design review board), followed by 30–60 days for permitting. Staff said the next procurement step — issuing an invitation to bid for construction — is scheduled for early 2026. The project has roughly $1 million in geo bond funding authorized to reconstruct the structure.
Rosen Gonzalez moved to ask staff to return in approximately six months with a further update; the committee agreed by acclamation.
The committee did not adopt construction contracts or set a firm construction start date at this meeting; the update focused on design procurement and the schedule for issuing an ITB.
