Arizona bill would limit municipal home-design and size rules; some lawmakers cite local-control concerns

The bill “really does restrict some of the local municipalities, in my opinion,” Representative Diaz said, adding that she voted present in committee because she remains concerned about local control. “So I went ahead and I voted present and I'm still having questions about it.”
Ms. May echoed the local-control concern and tied it to municipal planning under the state constitution, saying municipalities submit voter‑approved plans every 10 years and use those plans for infrastructure and public‑safety planning. “I have concerns that this overrides the voters, in those various municipalities, and again, according to the Arizona Constitution,” she said.
Other members said the bill lacked support in rural parts of the state and suggested the sponsor check votes before third reading. No formal floor action or final vote was recorded during the caucus.
