Bexley to vacate North Cassie senior center by Sept. 1 as replacement project begins; temporary site search underway

At the April 8 Bexley City Council meeting, Parks & Recreation staff reported the city will vacate the North Cassie senior center by Sept. 1 to allow construction of a new facility. Mike Price said the anticipated construction timeline is about two years, with a target completion in the fall of 2027.
Staff said they are actively seeking a temporary location for the senior center’s programs while construction proceeds. Price said the search is not limited to Bexley proper — the city prefers a local option but will consider bordering neighborhoods — and that ideal space would be roughly 1,500 square feet or larger. Parking, shared amenities and accessibility are among criteria under consideration; staff noted a shared-facility model (for example, a room within a larger complex with common restrooms) could reduce the minimum square footage requirement.
Staff said one potential lead is a space at Trinity that approximates the size of council chambers and could work if shared amenities were available. Price said the administration will continue outreach for options and asked council members and residents to forward any leads.
The council expressed interest in minimizing travel burdens for seniors and ensuring parking access, and staff said they will weigh parking and program needs when evaluating candidate sites.
