Lee County schools report nearly $284 million in Hurricane Ian impacts; $55 million legislative appropriation bolsters recovery

Lee County School District operations and risk staff briefed the board on April 8 about the status of Hurricane Ian (and subsequent Hurricane Milton) repairs and funding, reporting detailed project counts, funding commitments and estimated timelines for outstanding work.

Imperium Group director Joseph Muscali said the district has quantified nearly $284 million in storm impacts to date. He and district partners said commitments from insurance, FEMA and other sources total about $167 million; the district has received approximately $149 million so far and currently shows a cash surplus of roughly $29 million because reimbursements received to date exceed expenditures to date. Muscali said the district expects additional insurance proceeds — an estimated $18 million — to be paid after remaining proofs of loss are finalized.
