Board hears facilities and transportation updates: lacrosse wall, bus relocation and Paxton Hollow roof project

At the facilities and transportation portion of the meeting, district staff described several projects the board will consider at an upcoming voting meeting.
Facilities staff said the Breuder family has donated $5,000 toward a new lacrosse backstop and that the Fezzano family has donated block materials; staff reported a contractor price of $19,000 to build a 12-foot-high by 24-foot-wide masonry wall with a 3-foot footer and the contractor will supply mortar, rebar and concrete. Staff asked the board to place that item on the two-week voting agenda for formal approval.
On transportation, staff reported the district negotiated an agreement with Delaware County for temporary bus parking while an underground-tank renovation is completed at the district’s existing lot. The arrangement will charge $4,000 per month. Staff said the move is planned as soon as the tank schedule is known and that district operations should not be delayed during the relocation.
Facilities staff also presented a two-part roof project for Paxton Hollow Middle School: architectural and professional design through Bonnet Medical Associates and installation of a silicone roof system by O'Donnell Roofing. The installation bid was presented as $890,000 with a 10-year warranty; staff said about $374,000 of the cost will be funded by a facilities improvement grant. Staff asked the board to place the contract approvals on the upcoming voting agenda.
Staff also noted the Marple Newtown High School Parent Teacher Organization requested installation of three bottle-filling water stations before the end of the school year and said staff would proceed to present that as a voting item. The meeting included two facility-use rental requests — Top Dance Studio and Art in Motion — asking to rent district space for rehearsals and Sunday performances with a stated rental fee of $450 per hour; staff said these will be processed under district facility-use policy 707.
No final votes on these projects took place at the April meeting; staff requested that the board consider formal approvals at the next voting meeting.
