Summary
Adams County commissioners authorized staff to file state grant applications to support community corrections, probation, jail-based behavioral health and the resilience court after staff described program needs and the likely funding amounts.
Adams County commissioners gave their formal support for several criminal-justice and treatment grant applications to state agencies during Tuesday’s meeting.
Ian and other community corrections staff requested permission to apply for the county’s annual Department of Corrections community corrections grant (the request reflected historical funding levels of about $408,670). Ian said there is no firm DOC increase in the new state budget cycle; the amount requested matches recent awards. He also noted resilience court asked for $60,985 — a larger ask than prior years that would cover portions of salaries for program staff if awarded.
Probation and community corrections representatives explained the requested funds support a full-time probation officer position, a part-time field officer for curfew checks and home visits, drug testing and training for staff. Adams Behavioral Health also presented a continued request for $50,000 to provide jail-based behavioral health case management services.
Commissioners moved and approved a motion allowing staff to file the grant applications; they expressed support for the programs and asked staff to return with award notices and any required matching or budget implications.
No new county appropriation was requested during the motion to file; staff noted that resilience court funding, if awarded, would be used to reduce pressure on community corrections budgets rather than create additional county payroll obligations.
