AdventHealth expands student health and career pathways in Volusia County Schools

The partnership’s work includes donated resources and programs that district staff said are already in use: book vending machines placed at schools with an ongoing AdventHealth commitment to keep them stocked, a recent bicycle donation and helmet/lock distribution at schools where transportation to school was a barrier, and a teacher-recognition sponsorship. AdventHealth also funds athletic training room makeovers at high schools and helps supply medical equipment and staffing support.
Medical and safety services: AdventHealth highlighted an annual mass sports-physical program held at Daytona International Speedway. The team said the most recent event registered more than 1,600 student-athletes and provided more than 1,100 physical exams over four nights. At that event AdventHealth offered optional ECG screening; staff said 960 ECGs were performed and that the screenings identify students who need follow-up care, citing a family story presented in the session about a student whose ECG led to a diagnosis and subsequent surgery.
Career pathways and scholarships: AdventHealth said it is hiring a workforce development specialist dedicated to the district partnership to coordinate internships, job shadowing, tours and recruiting events. The company also offered 10 full-tuition scholarships to AdventHealth University for Volusia County seniors meeting minimum academic requirements and noted that each health academy already receives local scholarships through the partnership.
Community supports: AdventHealth representatives described broader community work that benefits district students, including meal-packing drives with local hunger organizations (AdventHealth reported providing tens of thousands of meals through local partners) and youth anti-vaping programs in county health collaborations.
Board reaction: Board members praised AdventHealth’s sustained presence and said the partnership model — combining health services, student incentives, scholarships and career exposure — provided measurable benefits and direct help to students who otherwise lack access to care or enrichment. No board action was taken; the presentation was informational.
