Limestone County Commission approves claims, contracts, hires, subdivisions and paving schedule; most votes unanimous

The Limestone County Commission approved a range of routine claims, contracts, grants, hires and land-use items in a meeting that featured largely unanimous votes.
Key approvals included a claims list totaling $2,447,139.58; a cooperative agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority to reduce litter in the Wheeler Basin; an FY24 COPS technology and equipment grant award in the amount of $425,000; and a contract for materials testing with Muriel Engineering for $4,635.
Commissioners also approved multiple contracts and project actions tied to the county jail project, including a change-order authorization for the chair and an allowance authorization of $10,163.13 for power and exhaust fans.
The commission approved a senior community service employment program host-agency agreement for fiscal year 2024 at no cost to the county; an agreement with the State Department of Examiners of Public Accounts for an audit of federal assistance; and a contract described in the minutes to maintain an existing ship program.
On personnel matters, the commission approved a bundled motion covering hires, promotions and unpaid medical leave, including hiring Monica Hodges as a senior aide, Julie McCurry as help desk staff, and Nathan Head as an equipment operator II in District 3; promoting Susie Dugger to tag-title clerk and Molly Pack Hamilton and Jennifer Withers to new positions; and approving unpaid medical leave for Taylor Long. Commissioners also approved merit increases.
In land-use business the commission approved three subdivisions presented by county staff: Copperfield Subdivision Sixth Edition (resubdivision of Lot 236) in District 2; Beauchamp Branch Subdivision (two lots) in District 4; and Justin Lander subdivision (two lots) in District 1.
The commission adopted the construction paving schedule for the year and authorized the sale of two Dodge Nitro vehicles on GovDeals. Commissioners also approved removing specified items from county inventory.
Most motions were made and seconded by commissioners Samet, Turner, Gatlin or Townsend; the meeting record shows each item was called to vote and passed unanimously. For example, the motion approving the claims list passed with votes recorded as "Aye" from Commissioners Gatlin, Townsend, Samet and Turner.
