St. Albans council announces state grants for Morgan’s Kitchen and Ordnance Park courts

The St. Albans City Council said it received two state Local Economic Development Fund grants to support local projects. Council members reported a $10,000 award to improve Morgan’s Kitchen and a $30,000 grant to prepare a bid to upgrade courts at Ordnance Park to one tennis court and two pickleball courts.
Council members said the funds arrived last Friday and that the city will put the Ordnance Park project out to bid soon. A council member stated the city was among the first communities to receive that type of funding this round and thanked state officials for releasing the money.
Officials said Governor Patrick Morrisey is expected to attend a ribbon-cutting when the park improvements are completed. No contract award or construction schedule was specified at the meeting.
The announcement came during the council’s praise-and-recognition portion of its April 7 meeting; council members encouraged bids and noted the next steps would include issuing a public bid for the court work.
