Committee members praised landfill staff for an operating compaction rate above recent county averages; staff said improved compaction saves space and operational costs.
Separately, STEPS informed the county that recycling processing fees will increase effective July 1: paper and cardboard processing will rise from $0.28 to $0.60 per pound (packet lists per‑ton/ per‑pound figures), and plastics from $0.46 to $1.00 per pound; electronics handling fees remained unchanged. The Properties Committee recommended the board authorize issuance of an RFP to secure vendor services for collection, transportation and disposition of paper, cardboard, plastics and electronics at county convenience sites.
A motion to accept the committee recommendations and to issue the RFP passed on the Board vote. The board noted the potential operational and budgetary impacts and directed that proposals be returned to the Properties Committee for review before final board action.
