Supervisors authorize pre‑audit engagement with Rutherford Moss for FY25 audit preparation

Prince Edward County supervisors approved hiring Rutherford Moss to perform pre‑audit scheduling and professional accounting services ahead of the FY25 audit.
County staff explained the engagement will help the county meet Statement on Auditing Standards No. 115 (SAS 115) communication and documentation requirements and provide external auditors with a prepared schedule of services. Staff said Rutherford Moss previously provided similar services to the county and currently serves neighboring localities.
Staff indicated the firm will begin pre‑audit services on or about June 1, 2025, and the engagement letter and fee schedule were included in the board packet. A motion to authorize the county administrator (Mr. Stanley) to execute the agreement passed on the Board’s vote.
Board members asked about travel and remote work; staff said Rutherford Moss performed most work remotely in recent years. The county will finalize the engagement letter and bring invoices through the normal finance process.
