Board approves readministration of K–8 EOGs during last 10 days of school; high schools keep summer testing plan

The Public Schools of Robeson County board approved an amended testing plan that directs K–8 schools to administer readministrations of End‑of‑Grade (EOG) reading and math tests during the final 10 school days of the year.
"If you approve the new plan that you have in your packet, our students will actually test during the last 10 days of the school year in addition to taking the regular administration," testing coordinator Cynthia Lewis said when presenting the item. Principals and the district curriculum team recommended the timing so fewer students are lost to summer absence and the district can support makeups more reliably.
Scope: The change applies to reading (grades 4–8) and math (grades 3–8) readministrations. High school courses remained on the previously approved summer testing schedule; high schools will continue to administer summer retests in June.
Board action: A motion to approve the amended calendar passed in a board vote.
Effect on accountability: Lewis said the readministration can improve a school’s proficiency rate but does not affect growth calculations used in state accountability measures. Board members supported testing while students are on campus as a way to reduce summer attrition from retest populations.
Implementation: District staff will work with individual schools to schedule the administrations and communicate with families. No additional funding was requested at the meeting.
