St. Lucie board proclaims April 2025 as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month

The St. Lucie County School Board unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing April 2025 as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month.
Anne Marie Mazeraki, the district’s program specialist for autism spectrum disorders, introduced eighth-grader Binsky Levinsky of Westgate K‑8 School, who read the board’s proclamation and associated statistics. During the reading, Levinsky recited figures included in the resolution: “autism spectrum disorder affects 1 in 36 children in the United States and approximately 1,137 students in Saint Lucie County Schools as of February 2025.”
Marcy Lucky, director of exceptional student education, and other district staff were on hand to present the proclamation. After the reading, a board member moved to adopt the proclamation and the motion passed 5-0.
Board members and staff applauded Levinsky and encouraged participation in district autism-awareness activities during April. The board asked staff to publish the proclamation and related resources on the district website and to promote district activities for families and educators.
