St. Lucie school board adopts amendments to instruction, virtual learning and related policies

The St. Lucie County School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt proposed amendments to a group of district policies covering instruction, educational options, virtual instruction, summer programs and student progress reporting.
The vote followed a public hearing on the proposed changes; no members of the public spoke during the hearing. Superintendent Dr. Prince recommended the board adopt the amendments, and the board approved the recommendation by a 5-0 voice vote.
The board adopted changes to school board policy 2.215 (Program of Instruction); 2.370 (Educational Options); 2.370.01 (Virtual Instruction); 2.440 (Summer Programs); 2.520 (Selection and Adoption of Instructional Materials); 2.540 (Audio Visual Use); 5.410 (Student Progression); and 5.420 (Reporting Student Progress). During the meeting the chair opened a public hearing, invited comment and, seeing none, called for the vote.
Board members did not request separate public comment on the proposals; the superintendent presented the package as a single recommendation. After the vote the chair closed the public hearing and the board moved on to recognition items on the agenda.
