Votes at a glance: consent agenda, personnel report, Chartwells renewal, stadium renaming, and closed session

At its April meeting the Manitowoc School District Board of Education recorded several formal actions. Below are the outcomes recorded on the public agenda and in the meeting transcript.

Votes at a glance

- Chartwells food-service contract amendment: The board approved the first annual renewal amendment to the five-year Chartwells contract. Amendment applies the contract’s formula taking the lesser of a 3% cap or the consumer-price-index “food away from home” measure (CPI was 3.7%, so the contract increase is 3%). Motion carried by voice vote.

- Renaming municipal field to commemorate Bruce Steinbecker: The board approved the renaming by voice vote; no recorded opposition in the public transcript.

- Quick-lock classroom door proposal (teacherlock.com example): A board member requested consideration and the board voted to refer the proposal to the facilities and finance committee for review and potential grant pursuit. Motion to refer carried.

- Printed director and superintendent reports at meetings: A motion that the director’s and superintendent’s reports be available in printed form at board meetings passed by voice vote; board members discussed providing a small number of printed copies and a QR/link to the documents online.

- Tabling of proposed CPI increase to teacher salary matrix: A motion was made to table the item (proposed 2.95% CPI increase) until the newly seated board can consider it; the motion to table carried (voice vote) and the item will be revisited at the next meeting.

- Closed session for personnel: The board moved into closed session for personnel matters under Wis. Stat. § 19.85(1)(c). A roll-call vote was recorded with Christopher Abel, Ben Hansen, Matthew (Spalding), Keith Shaw, Matthew Spalding (name repeated in transcript), Carrie Trent and others recorded as voting “Aye” to convene the closed session.
