Kane County board issues proclamations for agriculture, Earth Day, volunteers and public-safety telecommunicators

The Kane County Board adopted several proclamations and resolutions Tuesday honoring the county's agricultural industry, declaring April 22 Earth Day, recognizing volunteer service and designating a week to honor public-safety telecommunicators.
The board unanimously approved a 2025 proclamation supporting agriculture in Kane County, which notes the county has protected farmland through ordinances and easement programs and says agriculture supports thousands of jobs locally. Leslie Juby, who introduced the agricultural proclamation, read the document to the board.
The board proclaimed April 22, 2025, as Earth Day in Kane County and recognized April as Earth Month. The Earth Day proclamation cites Kane County projects such as the 2-megawatt solar field at the Kane County Judicial Center and the county’s 2040 plan. The Earth Day item passed on a roll call vote with three members recorded as voting “no.”
The board also recognized April as Medical Reserve Corps / National Volunteer Appreciation Month and passed a resolution honoring volunteers who support public health efforts and emergency management. Michael Isaacson of the Kane County Health Department and Liz Ollman, director of planning and information management, highlighted the ongoing role volunteers played during and after the COVID-19 response.
Separately, the board approved a resolution declaring the week of April 13–19, 2025, as National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week in Kane County, thanking 9‑1‑1 dispatchers and urging residents to visit the Kingcom center. Michelle Guthrie and members of the telecommunication staff were at the meeting to accept the resolution.
The proclamations and resolutions came at the start of a meeting that also included a detailed review of county finances and several public comments about the recent sales-tax referendum.
