Everman city staff reported a water-main break linked to recent freezing temperatures during the Jan. 14 City Council meeting, and said crews will perform a multi-hour repair the following day.
Staff told the council that the break is at a vulnerable location requiring specialty parts, which delayed repairs until parts could be obtained. The break will affect several homes, businesses and Sauder Elementary; the city said it had coordinated portable restrooms for the school and was arranging drinking water so classes could continue without interruption.
Staff said the repair work is likely to take the majority of one day once crews begin, and cautioned the council that another cold snap was expected later in the week with temperatures forecast in the teens. City staff said they would return to a future council meeting if additional storm impacts occur.
No emergency declaration or additional council action was requested; staff described the response as ongoing operations with accommodations already arranged for the school.
