Peachtree City schedules budget workshops starting May 30; fiscal year begins Oct. 1

Peachtree City officials said the city will hold budget conversations and workshops beginning May 30 as it prepares the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.

A city staff member told the council these are public meetings and urged residents to participate. “This is a very public process. We want to invite and include you, the citizen, to all of these meetings,” the staff member said. “So I strongly recommend that you get the slice, that you take a look at when these meetings are posted.”

The staff member explained that, after the mayor and council provide priorities and direction, it is the city manager’s duty under city ordinance to prepare the budget. “Once Peachtree City Mayor and council do give our priorities and direction to the city manager, it is his job per ordinance to create the budget,” the staff member said.

When the budget is completed and shared with the mayor and council, the staff member said it will also be posted on the city’s website and made available for review at City Hall; the city will use its communications channels to publicize the materials. “It will be posted on our website. It will be made available for review at City Hall, and we will use our communication channels to push all that information out,” the staff member said.

The staff member closed by encouraging residents to follow the meeting calendar for updates. “So watch the calendar and be a part of this process,” the staff member said.
