Police and clerk's office staff said Trinity representatives typically check in with the police to provide vehicle and neighborhood information, and the police reported no formal complaints. Staff told the council a 30-day license costs $25 and a one-year license is $100.
Some councilors said the licensing decision should be separate from opinions about the product — if an applicant meets licensing requirements the town should approve the license. Others urged residents who do not want solicitations to use no-soliciting signs.
The roll-call vote approved the license. Council members asked staff to monitor complaints and to verify the individual applicant's prior licensing history; staff said the company has held licenses in prior years and that the individual applicant had not been previously licensed in Richmond.
