Richmond council continues public hearing for Walla Loom Campground license to March 4

The Richmond Town Council voted to continue the public hearing on a seasonal recreational facility license application from Walla Loom RV LLC, doing business as Walla Loom Campground, to the council's next meeting on March 4. Council members said they wanted written clarification about a January 30 notice from the building official and the status of alleged winter occupancy before acting on the license.

The applicant, Rae Aslan, identified herself as the general manager and said family members were living in the house on the property and that any personal belongings left in a camper were temporary. Aslan also said the campground had received a letter forbidding propane tanks; she said she had asked planning staff whether permits were required and had not received a clear answer before the letter arrived.

Councilor discussion focused on zoning enforcement records and the January 30 notice from the building official alleging people living on the property after the seasonal closing date. The council agreed it would be appropriate to hear public comment at the meeting and then continue the matter to have the town and corporate applicant address the outstanding enforcement notice.

The council also asked staff to provide copies of prior renewal paperwork and any zoning documentation that references winter camping or required closing dates so the applicant and council can identify whether any ordinance or past practice was violated. Councilors stressed the continuation was intended to allow the building and zoning offices, the applicant and — if necessary — corporate representatives to resolve or clarify the enforcement notice before a final license decision.

The council's roll call to continue the hearing passed unanimously; the council set March 4 as the continued hearing date and said the public hearing would remain open to allow public testimony tonight and follow-up at the continued date.
