The Mobile Board of Adjustment approved signage for a Walmart fuel center at 2570 Government Boulevard on April 7 after the applicant agreed to remove a proposed "grab-and-go" sign that would have extended above the canopy.
Sunday Gorham of SGA Design Group represented the applicant and said the fuel-site building was visually "naked" and the company sought a modest Walmart identification and the spark logo on the small building that serves as the convenience/retail kiosk. "It just needs the Walmart and the spark on it," Gorham said.
During the hearing, board members questioned the location of the grab-and-go sign as shown on application drawings. Gorham and the chair agreed the grab-and-go element should be removed; the applicant's representative confirmed the request to eliminate that component of the application. The applicant and the board then proceeded and the board approved the remaining sign package subject to findings; the chair announced the motion carried.
No members of the public spoke in opposition or support during the hearing. The removal of the canopy-mounted grab-and-go sign was specifically noted in the motion.
