CTE shop rises on schedule; district finalizing gym plans and preliminary capital budget

Robert Kilmer, the district’s career and technical education director, told the board that construction on the new CTE shop attached to the high school is progressing and remains on schedule.
“We're out of the ground, we're in the air on the shop. They're up about 8 feet on the back wall and the east wall…door and window bucks arrived today, so now they'll come around and start doing the front of the building also,” Kilmer said.
Business administrator Scott McMillan provided a status update on other capital projects. The district completed contractor prequalification for the Morgan Middle School gym replacement: 10 contractors submitted proposals and six firms were prequalified to bid. Plans will be finalized and released to contractors; asbestos remediation at the old gym site is scheduled to begin mid-February, with contractor mobilization planned for March 10.
McMillan reported the maintenance shop floor had been poured and interior framing had begun. He said the contractor for property acquired from the district (a church site used by maintenance staff for storage and morning meetings) had not yet taken action and the district continued to store equipment.
On the preliminary capital budget for fiscal year 2026, McMillan said principals submitted prioritized capital requests and the district currently estimates about $400,000 a year available in its long-range plan for capital projects. He cautioned that the list of needs exceeds that set-aside and that final approvals and procurement would follow board review and the June budget adoption schedule.
Board members and administrators encouraged site visits and said photos and progress reports would be shared with the board. Kilmer and McMillan said weather has helped progress this winter so far but noted warmer weather could complicate the construction schedule in spring.
