Minutes: The board approved the minutes from its March 11 meeting by voice vote.
Donations and gifts: The board accepted a wooden playhouse donation from Habitat for Humanity for Community Park’s toddler play area. The board also acknowledged receipt of a $1,616.10 check from the William H. Mayer Successor Trust and thanked the trust for the gift.
Grant support: The board authorized the park board president to sign a support letter so staff can submit an application to a community benefit fund (referred to in the packet as the UMBC community benefit fund) for accessibility turf at Duke Park. Staff said equipment is already ordered and that the turf would be an additional upgrade.
Capital equipment: The board added a late agenda item to recommend bidding a new bucket truck and voted to recommend soliciting bids with a not-to-exceed cap of $185,000; staff will forward that recommendation to city council for final authorization.
Staff reports: Parks staff reported on recent high water and standing-water impacts across park properties. Staff said a memorial bench for Ellie Carter has been placed at the East 41 Canoe and Kayak Launch and thanked donors. Sports fields were described as largely playable after closures over a saturated weekend; staff said they closed some soccer fields when water levels were high but were able to host junior high baseball on the senior field. The golf course was closed because of standing water on most holes; staff said the front nine may reopen before the back nine as water recedes. Staff also said Winter Guard International teams are using a community venue for practices and preliminaries this week.
