The Board of Park Commissioners voted April 8 to accept a donation of a wooden playhouse built by Habitat for Humanity for placement at Community Park.
Parks staff said Scott Barr with Habitat for Humanity contacted them offering several wood playhouses; the board viewed photos and discussed possible placement on the 2-to-5 toddler side of the Community Park playground. Staff described the unit as well-built exterior-grade siding with window and door openings but no installed doors or glass, which staff said reduces entrapment risk for small children.
Board members discussed maintenance and lifespan concerns because the structure is wood. One commissioner characterized the playhouse as a temporary, “stop-gap” addition that could be removed when larger playground upgrades occur. Parks staff said they would assess condition and determine removal when it reached the end of useful life; the board agreed they did not want to spend money on significant repairs for donated wood structures.
A motion to accept the donation was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said they will work with Habitat for Humanity on delivery and final siting within Community Park.
