Holly, the preservation planner, reminded the board that the house is a circa‑1795 typical Nantucket dwelling in the Old Historic District and recommended retaining a simple, austere treatment on the house. The Historic Structures Advisory Group (represented at the meeting by Mickey Rowland) and several commissioners said shutters would add an unnecessary formality to the simple Quaker‑style façade.
The applicant agreed to withdraw shutters from the proposal and keep existing cedar shingles.
