At the April 3, 2025 meeting, the Ravalli County Board of County Commissioners voted to authorize staff to obtain a demolition permit and pay the required $50 fee for removal of the north-end stairs at the Ravalli County Courthouse in Hamilton.
A county official reported the proposed demolition timeline is April 16 and that the City of Hamilton requires a demolition permit. “It's a $50 permit fee,” the official said. A commissioner moved to approve obtaining the permit and paying the fee; the motion was seconded and the board voted to approve the permit application. Commissioners indicated the expense would be charged to the maintenance budget and that a contractor and bidding process will follow for completion of the work.
The action approved at the meeting covered only obtaining the demolition permit and paying the fee; the board did not authorize a contract award or appropriate project funds beyond identifying the maintenance budget as the likely funding source. Staff said the next step is to solicit bids for the stair removal and then enter a contracting process.
