John Wilkerson (benefits/finance) presented an employee benefits update to the BET on April 8 showing medical claims near budget, prescription costs up modestly and timing differences on rebates affecting year‑to‑date comparisons.
Wilkerson said overall claims were within budgeted expectations: "Medical's up less than 1%... prescriptions are up about 3½ percent," he reported. He flagged several large medical claims that had appeared in the prior three weeks and said staff would monitor near‑term activity closely. Wilkerson also discussed the county pharmacy, which launched in February and has seen volume climb month to month (920 scripts in February and 1,426 in March), and said the county expected a final prescription rebate for the fiscal year in May.
The committee moved and seconded a motion to receive Wilkerson's report; the committee approved the motion by voice and asked the clerk to attach the discussed document to the official record because the document had not been attached to the meeting agenda packet.
Wilkerson reiterated that while annual averages for medical cost increases might hover around 7% for medical and 12% for prescriptions in some years, the current plan is tracking below such worst‑case scenarios and that anticipated changes to GLP‑1 drug coverage could alter future prescription costs and county pharmacy strategy.
