Danielle Brown, city staff member, distributed a draft listing of nonprofit funding requests received for FY2025–26 and said staff will invite organizations to a future budget workshop for presentations on requests they want the board to consider in person.
"When you send your emails to Danielle, Dolly, and myself, be sure to let us know if you want any of these specifically to be here to present to the board as far as why they are requesting the donation that they are," Bruce said while discussing the schedule for nonprofit presentations.
Board members discussed the senior center contract line (about $79,750 shown in the draft) and asked for clarity about the purpose of the transfer; Brown said the line pays the company that oversees the senior center and noted the city subsidizes the portion seniors would otherwise pay.
The board also discussed animal-control funding requests. Staff noted a recurring request from the local animal-control provider (referred to in discussion as "Paul's/Paws") for $30,000 targeted at spay-and-neuter work; some board members expressed concern about response times and operational service levels and asked staff to review service performance and alternatives. No formal allocations were approved at the workshop; staff said nonprofit letters and financials would be circulated to board members for review and that organizations would be invited to present at a subsequent meeting if the board requests it.
