The City of Stillwater recognized Stillwater Regional Airport and Airport Director Kelly Reed on April 7 after the Oklahoma Airport Operators Association named the airport Airport of the Year and Reed Airport Director of the Year.
The honors “were quite an unexpected honor and surprise,” Reed told the council, adding she felt “blessed for the opportunity to support and serve the city of Stillwater.” Mayor William Joyce highlighted the awards in the meeting’s opening remarks and said the recognition reflects leadership and teamwork as the airport builds a new terminal.
The mayor noted the new terminal is “underway and set to open in August of 2026.” Reed and members of the airport leadership team — Devin Shiplett (security supervisor), Brandon Ingham (operations supervisor) and Doug Nichols (maintenance supervisor) — joined the council at the dais to accept the recognition. Reed said most of the airport leadership team was present and thanked staff for their work.
Council members and city staff praised airport staff for recent operational improvements. Councilor Clark described a recent crosswalk light installation to improve pedestrian visibility between remote parking lots and the terminal; Clark said airport staff coordinated with the electric utility and completed the work within a week after a constituent raised the safety concern.
The council also discussed the airport’s recent triennial disaster preparedness drill, held March 29. Councilors said multiple city departments, Meridian Technology Center students acting as passengers, and outside evaluators participated; evaluators identified areas for improvement that staff will include in follow-up plans.
The recognition and comments came during the council’s opening presentations and proclamations segment. No formal action was required for the awards or terminal status update.
Looking ahead, councilors asked staff to publish project timelines and public-facing updates as design and construction of the new terminal proceed.
