At the start of the April 7 meeting, members of the public used the council podium to thank volunteers and raise concerns about local landmarks.
Betty Bittner of 33-11 Monroe Street, speaking as a member of the Two Rivers Rotary Club, told the council the Rotary's 23rd annual fundraising dinner and auction was successful and benefited Encourage (formerly the Domestic Violence Center). Bittner said the Rotary presented a $1,000 donation to the Two Rivers Police Department's canine program and presented Paul Harris Fellow awards to Terry Hale, librarian at Lester Public Library, and Ben Miner, chief of police, in recognition of community service.
Another resident, identifying himself as Jim Bob Scribe of 1800 Jefferson Street, addressed the council about the Dairy Farm Museum. Scribe said the museum is leaking, that siding paint is peeling and that roughly $100,000 in improvements would be needed to keep the existing structure standing rather than having to replace it. He said the museum is an economic engine and deserves more attention and funding from local partners.
Council members listened but did not take formal action on the requests during the public comment period. Council and staff later noted other community events and volunteer efforts during the city manager's report.
Ending: No formal council action on the museum request was recorded during the meeting; residents were not asked to provide a written estimate or formal grant request during public comment.
