The committee on March 26 recommended adding a proposed children’s playground in the Euclid Circle area of Lincoln Road to Miami Beach’s five‑year Capital Improvement Program.
David Gomez, director of capital improvements, said consultants recommended a location in the Euclid Avenue right-of-way south of the existing oval; a consultant estimate provided to the committee put construction costs in the range of $4 million to $6 million for a full playground installation. Commissioners and staff discussed timing, funding sources and the need for Historic Preservation Board (HPB) review once project drawings reach the HPB submittal threshold.
Commissioners asked staff to explore grant and sponsorship options, consider folding the project into the Blue Zones program, and examine incentives tied to nearby redevelopment to help fund the playground. The committee recorded a favorable recommendation to return the item to the City Commission for inclusion in the CIP; commissioners asked that the HPB be consulted during design review as required by the city’s review processes.
