The State Department said Tuesday it was aware of media reports that two Chinese nationals were captured fighting in Ukraine on behalf of Russia and described the reports as “disturbing.”
Tammy (State Department spokesperson) told reporters she was aware of reporting that Ukraine had captured two Chinese citizens fighting for Russia. She said China is a major enabler of Russia in the war and asserted, citing the president’s remarks, that China provides a large share of the dual-use items Russia needs to sustain the conflict.
The spokesperson said continued cooperation between China and Russia “will only further contribute to global instability and make The United States and other countries less safe, less secure, and less prosperous.” She did not provide new U.S. intelligence or operational details linking China directly to particular combatants in Ukraine and called the reports “disturbing.”
