U.S. makes $9 million available for Burma relief; assessment team deployed

She said U.S. assistance is being coordinated with partner countries and international and local organizations to provide emergency shelter, food, medical support, clean water and sanitation as response shifts from rescue to emergency relief.
The spokesperson emphasized that U.S. humanitarian experts are working with partner organizations to maximize efficiency and direct support to communities with greatest needs. She did not give a detailed funding breakdown beyond the $9 million figure and said implementation would be carried out through humanitarian partners already operating in the region.
