State Department reiterates push for ceasefire and aid access in Gaza after Trump-Netanyahu meeting

A State Department spokesperson said Tuesday the administration is pressing for a resumption of a ceasefire in Gaza so humanitarian aid can reach civilians and emphasized the United States’ support for Israel and for efforts to release hostages.

Tammy (State Department spokesperson) told reporters that President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed Gaza during a White House meeting and that the administration is “guided by two principles: we stand with Israel and we stand for peace.” She said the administration seeks to resume a ceasefire and restore humanitarian access so aid can flow into the territory.

The spokesperson blamed Hamas for breaking ceasefires and said that resumption of hostilities disrupts aid deliveries, noting a concern about ongoing hostage-taking and the humanitarian consequences of interrupted assistance. Reporters pressed for specifics about prospects for a ceasefire and whether a ceasefire was discussed in Monday’s meeting; Tammy said the administration is working to get a ceasefire back on the ground and that the president and the secretary are focused on ending violence and ensuring aid reaches civilians.

Tammy listed priorities including restoring humanitarian access to food, water, medical services and sanitation for people in Gaza. She declined to provide operational details about potential aid delivery mechanisms and said the administration’s diplomatic efforts remain ongoing.
