Sustainability board lists volunteer events, community workshops through May

The Oshkosh Sustainability Advisory Board on Monday reviewed a calendar of upcoming sustainability-focused events and volunteer opportunities in the community and agreed to circulate a scheduling poll so board members can staff community outreach tables.
Board members and staff said the list of events includes a mix of education, volunteer and alternative‑transportation activities that provide public engagement opportunities ahead of the summer season.
Among items listed at the meeting: a free-school event at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh; an Oshkosh Seed Savers seed swap and soil‑blocking party; a museum lecture in the Bridging Past and Present series on April 10; the Oshkosh Art Collective show on April 12; a Winnebago bicycle beginner bikepacking event on April 12; Earth Day activities on April 22; the Culligan lecture on public engagement on April 23; an Urban Ecology Oshkosh BioBlitz and foraging event on April 26 (County Park, 1–4 p.m.); a repair cafe at the Downtown YMCA on April 27 (1–4 p.m.); and BirdFest on May 3 (Menominee Park, early morning through about noon).
The board also noted several cleanup events on May 3: the Fox River Watershed Alliance cleanup (listed as a morning cleanup) and the Fox‑Wolf Watershed annual cleanup, which board members said will run about 10 a.m. to noon and includes more than 70 locations from Fond du Lac around Lake Winnebago toward Green Bay.
Kimberly Garrick, identified at the meeting as the new planning services manager, introduced herself to the board. "So I just wanted to come and say hello to everybody and attend the meeting," Garrick said.
Members agreed to run a doodle poll to identify two or three Saturdays when the board can staff tables at the summer farmers market; several members said June and late‑summer dates are most likely to work. The board also discussed coordinating supplies with BirdFest volunteers at Menominee Park.
Board members suggested the city post notices for upcoming public sessions tied to the city’s sustainability plan so more advisory members can attend without risk of creating a quorum at an unscheduled meeting. They also asked staff to share links and flyers as they become available.
The board asked staff to circulate the doodle poll and to follow up with details on volunteer‑staffing commitments at the next meeting.
