Board honors Edina boys swim and dive state champions; coach and athletes recognized

The Edina Public School District board recognized the Edina High School boys swim and dive team as the 2025 state champions during its April 7 meeting and invited team members and coaches to the boardroom for remarks and a photo.

Athletic director Troy Stein introduced the team and coaches. Coach Scott Johnson told the board the year included multiple historic achievements: he said the team’s state title marks the program’s 16th state championship overall and noted that four Edina divers competed at the state meet and that all four scored. Johnson also singled out a senior identified as Jerry, who he said was a three‑time state champion in the 500‑yard freestyle.

Several student athletes introduced themselves and their events; one senior said he plans to continue swimming at Princeton University. Board members asked the swimmers about event times and leadership; one board member, a former swimmer, asked what constituted a championship time in the 200, and team members supplied their event times during the Q&A.
