The appointments approved included positions on the Bridal Services Advisory Board, Board of Health, Capital Improvements Advisory Committee, Keep Lubbock Beautiful Advisory Committee, Lake Alan Henry Board of Appeals, Park and Recreation Board, Public Transit Advisory Board and the Veterans Advisory Committee. City Secretary Paz read the council’s recommendations aloud before the council voted.
City Secretary Paz read the staff recommendations, which included reappointments and replacements: Catherine Wilkerson and Greg Taylor for Bridal Services (animal welfare rep and city official positions), Kathleen Finley to replace Melissa Key (citizen position); Nicholas Skeen and Patsy Cardona to replace Regine Sylvester and Donna Griffiths on the Board of Health; Thomas Paine and Clay Inger for developer/real-estate slots on the Capital Improvements Advisory Committee with Norma Johnson replacing Jonathan Hill in a citizen slot; appointments to Keep Lubbock Beautiful including Kent Meredith, Amanda Olivo, Janice Henderson, Christopher Mendez and Aman Ataya to replace John Garcia; Lake Alan Henry Board of Appeals recommendations including Christopher Howe and Shannon Hansen (reappointments) and Chris St. Clair replacing Marissa Allison Sheaf; Park and Recreation recommendations including William Paseword (reappointment), Veronica Lopez and others; Public Transit recommendations reappointing Kristen Murray and replacing Anne Polk with Matthew Fressoni; and Veterans Advisory Committee reappointments for Jeffrey Lowery, Dalton Kiel, Benny Guerrero, Steve Oien and Norman Bearden.
Mayor Pro Tem moved to approve the slate and Dr. Wilson seconded the motion; the council voted to approve the appointments unanimously. The mayor emphasized the city’s interest in “broader representation” on boards while noting that some boards require specific technical expertise. City Secretary Paz and council members provided the district and demographic breakdowns when asked: the audit and investment committee (discussed separately) had previously been composed of four members from Districts 4 and 5 following a resignation in District 6.
